What makes a good training treat?
A good training treat is high value: something your dog loves to eat, but isn’t fed very often. High-value treats are very motivating, which makes them effective as a reward for good behavior, or when teaching your dog new skills.
All of our dog training treats are made from drool-worthy freeze-dried raw sustainably sourced animal protein. Because our freeze-drying process is so minimal, they’re up to 3 times more flavorful!
The best training treats are:
- Healthy - made with premium, all-natural ingredients
- Low in calories - for more frequent rewards without overfeeding
- Bite-sized - for quick reinforcement that doesn’t slow down training
- Easy to handle & store - for mess-free pockets & treat pouches
How are training treats different from other dog treats?
Training treats are designed to encourage quick, repeated behaviors during learning sessions, which is why they’re small: you want your dog to stay engaged with training.
Other dog treats might be better suited for occasional enjoyment. For example, our single-ingredient dog treats are less uniform in size than our other freeze-dried raw dog treats.
Dental chews are bigger and chewier than training treats, intended to help clean teeth rather than being used as quick rewards.
However, all of our dog treats have the irresistible flavor of freeze-dried raw!
How many training treats can my dog have?
Training treats (like all treats) should make up no more than 10% of your dog’s total daily calories. The exact number depends on your dog’s size, activity level, and feeding plan.
Always check the calorie content per treat and adjust as needed to keep your dog at a healthy weight.
Can puppies have training treats?
Absolutely! Our training treats are safe for dogs of all ages and sizes. Just make sure any treat you give your pup is an appropriate size they can easily chew and digest.
