November is National Adopt A Senior Pet Month! Stella & Chewy’s celebrates the joys of older pet adoption all year long through our Journey Home Fund, but November is an extra special month.

There are so many senior pets waiting to find their forever home – could it be yours? We’re sharing adoptable senior pets available through some of our Journey Home Fund Partners.

Home For Good Dog Rescue | Berkeley Heights, NJ

Home for Good Dog Rescue is headquartered in Berkeley Heights, NJ. They rescue dogs from overcrowded shelters in the South, transport them to their rescue, and give them a second chance at life. As a uniquely 100-percent foster-based rescue, Home for Good places each dog into a loving foster home until adoption, and since their start, they have rescued over 9000 dogs and given them loving homes for good.

ADOPTED! Joplin, 6 years old
Joplin, a 6-year-old Labrador/Golden Retriever mix, is the sweetest, most loving dog. All she craves is the gentle touch and attention of humans – something she had never received in her past life. Joplin is fully grown at 50 pounds. She is housebroken, rides perfectly in the car, loves all animals, and is so gentle that she could even do well in a home with young children. Joplin should go to a home with another dog or with someone who is home most of the day, as she craves love and attention. She loves to go for walks, meet new canine friends, and chew on deer antlers – she is extremely food motivated. She cannot wait to find her perfect forever home! To become Joplin’s new family, apply here to adopt.

ADOPTED! Bella, 5 years old
Bella is a 5-year-old Schnauzer/Terrier mix who has blossomed since being rescued by HFGDR! She is a super gentle and loving dog who absolutely adores attention. Once she warms up, there isn’t a person or animal Bella doesn’t like. Bella is the first to greet anyone who walks in the door and is quick to roll over for a nice belly rub. Bella absolutely adores other dogs. She is submissive and gentle when she plays and will make the perfect sibling dog. Bella is also quite smart and already knows to sit before getting a treat! To invite this loving lady into your home, apply to adopt her today.

Lois

Betty, 13 years old
Betty is 13 years old and tired of being in the shelter. She is the cuddliest girl who just wants to lay on your lap. If you are looking for a new cuddle buddy, apply here to adopt Betty.

Betty

She equally loves play time and laying her head in your lap. Always clean in her kennel and walks fabulously on a leash, Stella will make a wonderful companion and walking partner!  Stella would do best as the only pet in the home as she has a strong prey drive, including squirrels, ducks, cats, and other dogs. Elmbrook Humane Society | Brookfield, WI

Elmbrook Humane Society is a shelter in Brookfield, WI whose mission is to provide shelter for homeless animals, promote the human animal bond, and prevent animal cruelty and neglect. Learn more.

Rocky & Ginger, 7 and 6 years old

Rocky is a roly-poly, big boy full of sweetness. He is affectionate and will spend the evening laying on your lap or near you on the couch. He can be a bit timid at first but once he feels safe, he loves human contact, and will roll on to his back for belly rubs. During the night he enjoys sleeping at the foot of the bed near his humans. Rocky has done well in a home with other cats and his sweet, gentle nature would make him great for a home with children. Rocky is good about using his scratching post and is not known to scratch furniture. He enjoys playing with his toys but is most happy snuggling and getting all the pets.

Ginger enjoys the attention of a single individual once he gets to know them. Once he is comfortable, he enjoys snuggling and getting all the pets. It may take some time and patience for Ginger to get to know you, but you will soon discover that he is a total sweetheart! Once he becomes comfortable in his environment, he is extremely playful and curious. He enjoys being around new people but also enjoys having his own space. Ginger flourishes in a home with his father, Rocky, and they are required to be adopted together. If you are interested in meeting this handsome duo, apply to adopt them today.

Ruff Start Resuce | Central Minnesota

Ruff Start Rescue is a foster-based, 501(c)3 rescue serving dogs, cats, and other small animals in Central Minnesota. Learn more.

Goblin, 7 years old
Goblin is a super sweet buddy, who is a little on the shy side. He’s still coming out of his shell, so he’s looking for a quieter home to settle into and patient people to show him love! He quickly learned to use potty pads perfectly and also go potty outside. He’s good with both cats and dogs with slow introductions. Goblin is very gentle with kids and seem to like being around them, but can get freaked out if they get loud or rowdy, so he would love a safe place to go to. Also, know that he had a mass cell tumor removed during my neuter surgery, so he will need to be monitored in case it returns in the future.

One big thing to know about Goblin is that he is heartworm positive – but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting him! After undergoing treatment for his condition he will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because he needs treatment, he is available exclusively through Ruff Start’s foster-to-adopt program. You can learn more about that program by visiting www.ruffstartrescue.org/adopt/fostering-to-adopt-available-animals/. He will be getting my heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so his foster will need to be comfortable taking him there for appointments. He will need to lay low while he recovers from treatments, but then he will be ready to show his new family all the love he has to give! Apply to adopt Goblin today.

Almond – 7 years old
Almond is a poodle mix around 7 years old who came from the shelter needing a great deal of medical care. She had rotten teeth and needed a spay, was riddled with mammary tumors, heartworm positive, and had a broken hip. Once she reached a healthy weight, she had her dental surgery, spay, orthopedic surgery, and has completed her range-of-motion rehabilitation. This girl is ready for a family! Almond is good with other dogs and LOVES people. Her favorite thing to do is crawl up onto foster mom’s chest, plop down, and take a nap. She’s dream girl! Apply to adopt today. Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit | Dearborn, MI

Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit was founded in 1993 by compassionate volunteers who believed that homeless animals deserve a second chance at life. They believe in inspiring healthy relationships between people and their pets.

ADOPTED! Rocky, 15 years old
Rocky has 15 years worth of love to give! He’s a laid back sweetheart who wants a forever best friend for some cuddle time. Rocky is a medium sized shepherd mix – so one of his favorite activities is sniffing around outside! We think he would do best in a calmer home and may want to be the only pet, as he was the only dog his whole life. Rocky ended up at the shelter after he got outside and his owners chose to surrender him due to his age instead of reclaiming him. Except for a few minor issues with some dry skin, and stiff joints, you’d never guess this sweetie is almost 16! He is calm, very curious, sweet, affectionate, easy to please, and loves to nap! To give Rocky a second chance at furever, apply today.

Lionel’s Legacy | San Diego, CA

Located in El Cajon, CA, Lionel’s Legacy started shortly after Lionel, a 15 year old pittie mix pulled from a Los Angeles shelter stole his foster parents heart. After his passing, his parents realized the amazing gifts he shared and felt compelled to advocate for senior dogs in need. Lionel’s Legacy’s goal is to save and advocate for ONE senior pet at a time, and support anyone who is willing to do the same.

Pinky, 11 years old
Pinky joined Lionel’s Legacy after her beloved owner suddenly passed away. Pinky is about 11 years young but she acts about 7 or 8! Although Pinky was an only dog, she went for daily walks around the neighborhood and made lots of friends. Pinky loves to play with other dogs, people and toys. She’s a smart gal who is looking for a family who will take her for regular walks and outings. Pinky is potty trained, knows commands, is extremely social, and is in great medical health for a senior sweetie! Apply to adopt Pinky today.
