November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month – a special month for all of us at Stella and Chewy’s. As part of our effort to support adult and senior rescues with our Journey Home Fund, we are taking the month of November to feature adoptable seniors from our Journey Home Fund partners that are looking for their forever homes. Please consider adopting a senior pet and saving a life.
Petunias come in an almost unlimited assortment of colors shapes and sizes… This Petunia comes in the form of a treasure of a dog, with her unique Bengal striping and the most unbelievably thick eyebrows we have ever seen on a dog. Petunia has been with our rescue for a little over a year. She had a large tumor which has since been removed and she is now ready for her furever home. She about 8-9 years old and weighs 65 pounds. She is dog selective and is not fond of cats, and would thrive as your one and only. Petunia endured a life of neglect and abuse, but you would never know that by meeting her. She is extremely loving and eager to be with her people. Please give this deserving dog a home.
Petunia is available for adoption in New York through Second Chance Rescue.
Lucy is a 10-year-old southern girl that looks to be a Dutch Shepherd/Wolfhound mix. She is friendly and LOVES people. Lucy listens well and is happiest after having stretched her legs after a good run in the woods. She gets along well with other dogs, cats, and even the chickens, after slow and careful introductions! Like most seniors, Lucy doesn’t take much nonsense from the youngsters. Her ideal home would have some breed experience. Lucy is a big girl, around 80 pounds, and so we recommend a home with older children. She is house-trained and a well behaved in the home.
Lucy is available for adoption in New York through Second Chance Rescue.
This little guy, Leon, is a sweet 9- year-old Shih Tzu that was being given away on Craigslist. We were contacted by the owners neighbor asking if we could help and we took him in last month. Leon is deaf but that doesn’t hold this guy back! He is a very friendly fellow and gets along well with dogs, cats and he loves people! Leon is puppy pad/house trained and let you know when he is ready to go out. Leon didn’t deserve to be on Craigslist. He didn’t deserve to lose the only home he has ever known. He deserves to find a wonderful person! Maybe that’s you?
Leon is available for adoption in New York through Second Chance Rescue.
Fuzz is remarkable! This Mastiff mix has some scarring on his face/nose from being tied or taped up, and also has scars from an embedded collar, but Fuzz does not hold any kind of grudge, he just loves people! He is a giant mush, loves belly rubs and cuddling on the couch. He is crate trained and completely housebroken. Fuzz knows basic commands (sit, gives paw, lie down) and is very treat motivated! He loves to go for walks, is friendly and enjoys meeting everyone. Fuzz loves to play outside and would enjoy a yard with a high fence. For a big boy, he is pretty agile and can scale/climb baby gates with ease. He has the personality of a Mastiff – a big goofball yet gentle giant! He truly is a mush and just wants to be loved!
Fuzz is available for adoption in New York through Second Chance Rescue.
Buster & Lexi
Buster and Lexi are brother & sister purebred Chihuahuas that are in need of a new home. They are incredibly affectionate, loving and full of personality. At 12 years old, their owners are no longer capable of caring for them due to medical reasons. Buster and Lexi have been together their whole lives and, ideally, we would like them to stay together. They have no history of interacting with cats or kids, they have always been with their owners. However, they have interacted with two larger dogs (80+ lb labradors) and got along just fine with their larger furry friends. Please help us get Buster and Lexi new home where they will be cared for and loved!
Buster & Lexi are available for adoption in New York through Second Chance Rescue.
Buford was a total ham. He reminded me a bit of Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh because he is low and slow and just went with it. He really needs a home that he can call his own. He would appreciate a quiet home with no stairs because he can’t get up them with his little old legs! His foster mom carries him up and down hers and at 28lbs it’s not too bad. He takes treats nicely, walks well on a leash, is house-trained, and allows all handling. Buford would do well in a home with other dogs, cats, kids or all by himself. He’s not picky – just an easy going 10yo beagle looking for his forever!
Buford is available for adoption in New York through Second Chance Rescue.
Arnold is a sweet senior lab mix who still has lots of spunk! He enjoys walks, play time in the yard, giving kisses and SNUGGLING! We pulled Arnold earlier this year from a shelter in Alabama with a benign tumor on his leg. He gained some weight and had the tumor removed and now Arnold is ready for his forever home!
Arnold is available for adoption in New York through Second Chance Rescue.
Apollo is approximately 8 years old. He is a survivor of the NY ACC system, having been surrendered because his owner lost his home and had nowhere to keep him. Apollo has lived with other dogs in the past but he is selective and our trainers do not think he can coexist with another dog. He likes to chase the kitties so no cats for this guy. He is friendly and sweet but is a strong boy and can pull on the leash. Apollo has been professionally trained so we would love to see him with a family who will keep up with his training.
Apollo is available for adoption in New York through Second Chance Rescue.

Your heart will melt when you meet me, guaranteed! I might be a little shy at first, but I warm up quickly! Hi, I’m Albert, a 12-year old handsome tabby cat. I was brought to the shelter as a stray so my history is not known, but I’ve been enjoying hanging out in harmony with other cat friends in a small colony room. I like to take it slow at first when getting to know you, but once I do, I’m all in! I am affectionate, gentle and hoping to find a peaceful permanent home in the Waukesha, WI area.
Albert is available for adoption through HAWS.
Hi there, I’m Callie the Calico! I arrived as a stray at the end of October and the shelter thinks I’m around 9 years old. I’m a chatty girl and I’d love to find my best friend. I promise to be your tv watching buddy, sleep in with you on the weekends, and show you my love. I’m looking for a home in the Waukesha, WI area.
Callie is available for adoption through HAWS.
Are you looking for a classy and beautiful friend? I’m Elizabeth, and I’m your girl! I’m around 12 years old and enjoy lounging around. I’m looking for a home in the Waukesha, WI area.
Elizabeth is available for adoption through HAWS.
Knock knock. It’s me, Coconut! I’m quickly typing away on the computer I stole so I can send a message to cool humans out there. I’m only 8 years old and have a lot more fun years ahead! I’m currently living in a room with lots of other cat friends and I’m nice to them – although I’ve made myself the permanent greeter if I see a human walk in. I love to socialize, climb cat trees and show off how affectionate I am. I’m looking for a home in the Waukesha, WI area.
Coconut is available for adoption through HAWS.
Hey, my name is Tiger and I am 8 years old. Let’s be honest, I am looking for my very own human and home to call my own! A place with no other cats or children would be like a kitty bachelor pad for a guy like me! I’d like to chill on a comfy bed and sit next to you. But hey, sometimes we all need a little space. I do not like to be picked up, but I LOVE to come over for a head and chin scratch. I have been waiting here for four months just watching for my perfect person to come meet me! I’m looking for a home in the Waukesha, WI area.
Tiger is available for adoption through HAWS.

I am a gentle old soul and life hasn’t been easy in the past for me, but I am enjoying my senior years with Senior Paws Sanctuary and I am looking for a home in the SW Florida area. I like being around other dogs, cats and older kids. I am looking for a home in the SW Florida area.
Dolly is available for adoption through Senior Paws Sanctuary.
I’m Nellie, a female Miniature Pincher, weighing in at about 5 lbs. I do have some motor skill issues due to a birth defect, but I am incredibly loving/lovable and I love to be held. Due to my disability, I do need to be the only dog in the household and with a more experienced pet parent. I walk shakily and often stumble, but I am not in any pain. I would prefer a quiet home, without other active dogs or children. I am looking for a home in the SW Florida area.
Nellie is available for adoption through Senior Paws Sanctuary.
Hello, my name is Lucy Lu! I am only about 5 lbs and 8 years old. I am very shy and easily scared; I often get scared of loud, fast movements. I do need to be in a home without other dogs, and I need someone patient willing to spend time with me, to show me that humans are fun and can be kind. I am looking for a home in the SW Florida area.
Lucy Lu is available for adoption through Senior Paws Sanctuary.

Did you ever read the children’s book series, Clifford the Big Red Dog? Now is your chance to have your own Big Red Dog! Hi, I’m Rusty, and I was found in June 2018 abandoned in a backyard for days during 103 degree temperatures. There was scarring around my entire neck from an extremely tight collar or chain. At almost 100lbs, I am a big 8-year old dog, but I promise I am as sweet as can be. I love to go for walks outside, hang out at cool places like dog-friendly breweries, and be with my humans. I’m pretty easy too – I won’t even notice if you hide my arthritis and hypothyroid medications in yummy treats! After a quick adjustment period, I’ll show you I’m great with other dogs of all sizes.
Rusty is available for adoption through Newman Nation: Senior Pets United. (Illinois)
Hello, I’m Sumo and I was rescued as a stray in Chicago in September 2017. The noisy, crowded streets were terrifying, and I was literally paralyzed with fear for days after entering the shelter. Luckily, a nice rescue came and saved me. I’ve been told that I’m the longest-term resident with the rescue and I just don’t understand why no one has fallen in love with me yet. I’m only around 11 years old so you can enjoy many more years with me. I have great manners and always keep my food dishes and litter box clean and tidy. I’m not a demanding cat, I’m just content to lounge around in beds, on your desk chair and in boxes. I enjoy attention and LOVE catnip toys.
Sumo is available for adoption through Newman Nation: Senior Pets United. (Illinois)
Emerson here! I was rescued after being hit by a car in August 2018. It really hurt, but I was wagging my tail because I knew I was finally done running around the scary streets and maybe I could find a home. I needed emergency surgery to remove my ruptured spleen, but everyone told me that I recovered like nothing had ever happened. I am a very loving and goofy older guy around 10 who loves treats, following humans around, and stealing your spot on the couch. I’ll also prove I’m great with other dogs of all sizes and cats.
Emerson is available for adoption through Newman Nation: Senior Pets United. (Illinois)
Do you need a noise machine to help you fall asleep at night? I will happily replace any device with my impressively loud purrs! My 13-year old self was rescued from a shelter in April 2018. They told me I was “hospice,” whatever that means, because I was in such poor condition. With love, good medical care and proper nutrition from an awesome foster mama, I gained back the many pounds I had lost and now have a stunning, shiny black coat. I would love to be your cuddle buddy and help keep you warm this winter.
Xander is available for adoption through Newman Nation: Senior Pets United. (Indiana)
I’m Lenny! Not to be confused with rockstar Lenny Kravitz. I’m a 10-11 year YOUNG, vivacious chihuahua from the San Diego Bonita Shelter. The shelter was worried that I wouldn’t get adopted because of my unkempt teeth and fatty tumor on my chest, so I was brought to Lionel’s Legacy. They gave me all the care I needed to start a new life and get a second chance. Don’t worry, unlike the Rockstar human I share my name with, I won’t go trashing hotel rooms or stay up too late singing. I am a very sweet and social pup and get along with other dogs big or small. I always make myself right at home on any sofa as if I’ve lived there for years! I love cuddles, fetching my toys, and going for long walks. I’m even great at sharing AND potty-trained!
Lenny is available for adoption through Lionel’s Legacy. (California)
I’m as sweet as pie and although I’m 11 years young, I still love to play fetch and soccer! If you are a Jack Russell Terrier fan, than I’m your gal! I am great with dogs, little kids and I’m potty trained. The shelter even gave me an A, the highest behavior rating possible! I have had full labwork and a dental so my breath is minty fresh for lots of kisses. I’m ready to join a family – just make sure you’re stocked with tennis balls!
Missy is available for adoption through Lionel’s Legacy. (California)
Hello! I’m Betsy Ross and I am 16lbs of pure sweetness. I love belly rubs, and my favorite is a good chin scratch. I like to play with toys and go for walks. I am house trained and crate trained and love to welcome my family home with a dancing routine! I would prefer to be the only love of your life, but I can get along with other dogs with proper introductions. I just want to please and I am very obedient. Will you take me home?
Betsy Ross is available for adoption through Lionel’s Legacy. (California)
I’m a 13-year old Georgia peach. Well, actually a Basenji, and Vintage Paws literally saved my life. When my human dad had to move to his son’s house, the son threatened to take me out back and shoot me! Fortunately, a kind person took me away and brought me to Vintage Paws. They say I have a heart murmur, but it only makes me love you more. I had a previous neurological issue that causes me to walk in large circles, but I can also walk a straight line.
Dixie is available for adoption through Vintage Paws. (Florida)
Sometimes life is hard and things happen that you’d like to forget. But then, someone came along and took me to Vintage Paws where it’s warm and cozy and everyone I pass reaches out a hand to scratch me behind the ears or rub my tummy. They don’t even care that I’m 15 years old and blind. They tell me what a smart boy I am because I found my way around really fast. In spite of what happened to me, I still have hope that I can find someone new that I can trust, who will love me and take care of me. I promise to return that love 100 times over.
Chance is available for adoption through Vintage Paws. (Florida)
Howdy! My name is Snoopy and I’m a 15-year old Schnauzer. I’ve been with Vintage Paws for about 4 months now, ever since I was found alone in an abandoned car even though I’m nearly blind and mostly deaf. But, I’m doing fine here with the Vintage Paws gang, both human and canine, and I always welcome one and all with smiles and a happy tail. I mean, look at me! I’m sweet, cute, and have such soft and curly fur you’ll want to bury your hands in it. And when you do, I’ll cuddle up right next to you and become your best snuggle buddy.
Snoopy is available for adoption through Vintage Paws. (Florida)
Hi there! They tell me I’m a Lhasa Apso and I’m 16 years old. I used to live with my Vintage Paws foster mom and I loved her so much. She loved me too and held me on her lap, giving me hugs every day. But then, she passed away and I’m back looking for a home again. I’m blind and deaf now but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying life. I feel the sun on my back and smell the wind as it blows through our big backyard. And, guess what? All the volunteers still hug me and love me and take good care of me. What else could a guy want?
Koko is available for adoption through Vintage Paws. (Florida)
Hi everybody! I’m Rocky and I’m 10 years old. I’m a chihuahua/min-pin mix and yep, I am that cute! I loved living in my own house with my own dad but he passed away a couple years ago and I had to go live in a very scary shelter for awhile. But, eventually, I made my way to Vintage Paws and life is good again. I like taking long walks and wagging tails with other dogs as I pass by but at home I prefer to be the only dog. Hey, what can I say? I like my space. And get this – I’m even potty trained! Yep, I am THAT cool.
Rocky is available for adoption through Vintage Paws. (Florida)
I don’t really like to think about my past. Me and 19 other dogs were jammed together in dirty wire pens outside in the bitter cold, hot sun and rain. We were always hungry, thirsty, filthy and infested with fleas and nasty parasites. Life was really hard for us. When Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office found us, they arrested our owner and took me to Vintage Paws where all the nice people made me feel safe and warm, filled my tummy and gave me a soft place to sleep and medicine to heal my body and soul. Now I’m safe and loved and looking for the forever home I deserve.
Ziggy is available for adoption through Vintage Paws. (Florida)
